Today, he’s a Manager in our Tax and Business Services division. And the fit has proven to be everything he hoped for – and more.

The right feel from the start

I applied for a role at BellchambersBarrett because I’d heard great things about the firm. In particular, I knew it had a collaborative culture and genuine respect for people’s lives outside of work.

During my interviews with partners Aaron and Sean, the conversation was so natural and relaxed. It wasn’t just about KPIs. There was a real emphasis on community involvement and on valuing the team as people, not just professionals.

I was looking to work somewhere I could genuinely enjoy what I do and be supported along the way. And from the start, BellchambersBarrett felt like the right fit.

Growing into the role

Since joining the firm, I’ve had the chance to work across a wide range of projects and clients in both the public and private sectors, from year-end tax work to compliance reviews.

But what I’ve appreciated most is that my development hasn’t been limited to technical training.

I’ve had opportunities to build my professional writing, presentation and leadership skills through workshops and development programs. I was also offered the chance to deliver internal training sessions, which was a rewarding experience in itself.

One of the biggest highlights was leading the firm’s Fringe Benefits Tax process. I was responsible for the entire process – from planning and training to resource allocation and reviewing returns. That experience gave me real exposure to end-to-end project management and built my confidence as a leader.

Supported every step of the way

In my Professional Development Plan, I shared my goal of becoming a manager within 12 months.

The firm didn’t just listen – it backed me. I was given opportunities and responsibilities that stretched my capabilities, helping me build the skills and confidence needed to step into a management role. Because of this, when I was promoted to Manager in 2025, I felt ready to take on the challenge and contribute at a higher level.

What makes BellchambersBarrett different

For me, it comes down to three things.

First, the people. We all genuinely care about each other as colleagues. It makes coming to work enjoyable – an important factor considering we spend a third of our days there!

Second, the work–life balance is real, not just a talking point. There’s no pressure to work excessive hours. Our leaders understand that life exists outside of work and offers genuine flexibility and support.

And finally, the community involvement. One of my favourite experiences has been helping out at the Hartley Hall Market BBQ alongside colleagues. It was a great chance to give back while spending time together outside the office.
