14 Aug Setting the standard with our first Graduate Assessment Centre
Earlier this year, we launched something new at BellchambersBarrett: our first-ever Graduate Assessment Centre.
As part of our refreshed graduate recruitment process, the half-day event gave candidates an insightful, immersive introduction to our firm’s culture and work.
And we’re proud to say our first session was a great success – and a clear sign of the value this initiative will bring to our firm for years to come.
A firm-wide effort
The Graduate Assessment Centre is a key part of our new graduate recruitment process. Offered to shortlisted candidates after the initial application stage, it’s designed to help us get to know each other better before moving toward final offers.
While the event lasted just one afternoon, it took weeks of collaboration to make it happen.
From crafting case studies to welcoming candidates and facilitating interviews, everyone – from our admin team to Partners – pitched in to ensure every detail was covered.
The result? A worthwhile afternoon that offered value for both the grads and our team.
From icebreakers to insights
Held in our Canberra office, the session ran for about four hours and gave participants a hands-on taste of life at BellchambersBarrett.
We kicked things off with a creative team exercise to break the ice and encourage collaboration. Next came the individual case study interviews. Each candidate analysed a scenario and presented their findings, giving us insight into their problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
The afternoon then moved into a group case study challenge, where grads worked together on a broader problem before presenting their recommendations to our Partners.
To wrap things up, we served drinks and nibbles – giving everyone the chance to relax and connect more informally.
Strong impressions on both sides
One of the best parts of the day was watching how the grads rose to each challenge.
Whether they were building bridges or working through business problems, their energy, ideas and collaboration truly left a mark.
Many of them have also told us how much they enjoyed the format and the warm, welcoming atmosphere. Overall, the grads walked away with a strong and positive impression of our firm.
And the feeling was mutual! We were equally impressed by the professionalism, enthusiasm and potential they showed throughout the day.
A promising start and a clear direction
This was the first milestone in our refreshed graduate recruitment journey – and it set the tone perfectly.
At BellchambersBarrett, we’re proud of the culture we’ve built: one that values collaboration, growth and doing things differently. Through initiatives like this, we’re excited to keep attracting and connecting with graduates who share our values.
